Azuma Knit Afterhood - Oatmeal
Made in collaboration with The Iron Snail, our Azuma Knit Afterhood a celebration of the hoodie's origins, going back to the early construction details that helped define one of the most iconic garments in American sportswear.
With The Iron Snail's unmatched ability to tell the story behind clothing, and our focus on making the highest quality sweatshirts possible, this project brings together history, craft, and wearability in one piece.
The fabric is knit in Japan on vintage Azuma knitting machines, a rare style of Japanese-made circular knitting machine once used during the golden age of Japanese cut-and-sew production. Unlike modern high-speed machines, Azuma machines knit slowly and with less tension, creating a heavyweight XYZ GSM fabric with a puffy hand feel and a natural softness.
The interior is brushed for supreme comfort, giving the sweatshirt a warm, plush feel from the first wear. The result is a fabric that feels substantial but easy to live in, with the kind of texture, volume, and character that makes vintage sweatshirts so special.
Construction details include an afterhood-style hood, thick drawstring cords, an inlaid V-neck insert with binder collar construction, ribbed cuffs and hem, and a classic kangaroo front pocket. Every detail is designed to capture the look, feel, and spirit of the original hooded sweatshirts while being made to Wonder Looper standards.
